A big deal has been made by conventional Democratic web sites like DailyKos and Democrats.com of the fact that right wing Democratic Congressman John Murtha went on the Sunday morning TV show Face The Nation this week and said, “There are three ways–four ways to influence a president, and one is popular opinion, the election, third is impeachment, and fourth is–and fourth is tighten the purse.”
Some Democrats are saying that Representative Murtha has put impeachment “on the table”, after Nancy Pelosi took it off the table.
Bull. All John Murtha did was to restate what the Constitution already says.
Let’s not hyperventilate, and let’s not fall into the trap of people who try to get us to think that the Democrats are more progressive than they really are. John Murtha is not in favor of impeachment. He just said the word “impeachment”.
Big whoop.
I’ll say the word “cannibalism”. That doesn’t make me a cannibal.

Yesterday was the national day of impeachment activism, and some pro-impeachment activities got more attention than others. On the whole, the media coverage of these events was not strong. Nonetheless, the Associated Press did pick up on a story about a group in the Senate office building in Washington D.C. that protested in favor of impeachment. Fourteen people got arrested in that particular protest, and I suppose that doing a demonstration in the nation’s capitol means a lot more than doing a protest anywhere else.
One fun thing about this protest is that it got the attention not just of the Associated Press, but of staff members working in senators’ offices too. It seems that many of them came out into the halls to see what was going on, and got the message in favor of impeachment straight from the mouths of the protesters.
How awfully uncomfortable it must have been for the elite dearies for their insulating bubbles to be burst.

Tomorrow is National Impeachment Day, with rallies in big cities and small towns all across America in favor of the impeachment of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. To find out more information about the Impeachment Day activities near you, visit A28.
This occasion brings to mind the difference between the impeachment of President Bill Clinton and the impeachment movement against George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. The impeach Clinton move was small, shallow and short lived, driven from the top by Republicans in Congress. The impeach Bush movement, on the other hand, is huge, deep and long-lived. It’s a genuine grassroots movement which has been largely ignored and rejected by Democrats in Congress.
The move to impeach Clinton was a power grab by Washington D.C. politicians. The movement to impeach Bush is an attempt by the people to counter the power of Washington D.C. politicians.

A28.org is the central resource web site for a day of protest across America. On April 28, people from coast to coast will join in protests demanding the impeachment of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. Check A28 to see where there is a protest planned near you – or to register a protest yourself.
Today, the A28 organizers declare that a summer of impeachment will begin this spring. Perhaps that’s a bit reaching, but the intent is in the right place. Join in the April 28 protests for impeachment, if you want to see a chance for a return back to America the land of the free.

Congressman Dennis Kucinich has announced that he intends to introduce articles of impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney to the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. Yes, you read that right – Vice President Dick Cheney, not President George W. Bush. What crime is Dick Cheney guilty of that George W. Bush is not also guilty of, I wonder. Surely, Kucinich doesn’t intend to impeach Cheney solely on the basis of the Valerie Plame bruhaha, when there’s so much more meat out there.
Well, Dennis Kucinich isn’t the strongest member of Congress when it comes to getting his legislation paid attention to by others, but something is better than nothing. So, here’s a reward for you, Representative Kucinich: A link to your presidential campaign. Pro-impeachment presidential candidates get a link to their campaigns. Candidates like Barack Obama who refuse to support impeachment get no link.

I came across this photograph this morning as I was looking at the web site for the North Jersey impeachment group. It shows a young woman wearing nothing but an impeach Bush bumper sticker across her chest.
It’s a provocative image. It captures my attention. It makes me want to look exactly where the message is. Is there anything wrong with that?
Prudes from the religious right might say so. They might say that this kind of image promotes indecency. Really, though, is there anything indecent about this image?
This young woman chose to make this political display using her body. No one forced her to do it. She seems to know that she’s attractive to look at, and celebrates that. Isn’t that her right, and isn’t it my right as the viewer to agree with her?
It seems to me that the protester you see in this image made a decision about her priorities. Surely, she doesn’t go around with her shirt off all of the time, and she probably wouldn’t like to. However, she decided that it was worth converting her body into an object of sexual attention in order to gain power through political communication. She decided that the sacrifice she chooses by displaying her body for strangers was less than the sacrifices that are forced upon her by President Bush.
I agree. Even if you’re offended by the sight of a nearly naked woman (and I’m not), isn’t that offense trivial in comparison to the offense of an illegal war, a massive program to spy against American citizens, a campaign of torture, and a President who has placed himself above the law in many other respects?
I think she’s got the right idea, and if I thought that anyone would be interested in looking at my nearly naked body, I’d do the same thing.

Earlier, I reported that the village of Trumansburg, in the Upstate Finger Lakes region of New York State, is considering passing a resolution encouraging the investigation and impeachment of United States President George W. Bush. Well, it turns out that I did not tell the whole story.
It seems that the entire county (and people from surrounding regions as well) is working to pass impeachment resolutions. The resolutions that ask Congress to investigate and impeach Bush start at the village level, as with Trumansburg, but are also being presented for passage to town boards, and finally to the Tompkins County Legislature, just one step below the New York State Assembly and Senate, which could in turn present a petition for impeachment to the timid Democratic Congress.
The organization Back To Democracy is sponsoring much of these efforts. Thanks to them.

The Western Courier serves as the student newspaper for Western Illinois University, and there, writer Rachel Matecki offers a strong argument for impeachment of George W. Bush. She doesn’t stop there, though, continuing on to argue that replacing the entire Bush Administration of the executive government. She writes, “Bush, along with his administration, has deceived us all. Not only is his impeachment necessary, but the removal of his entire administration wouldn’t be a bad idea either… It doesn’t matter if the presidential election is next year. We need all the help we can get.”
Add Rachel Matecki to the long list of students for impeachment.
