Harkin and Boxer Join Feingold

Everyone in America knows by now that Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold has introduced a Senate resolution to censure President Bush for violating the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. George W. Bush broke the law when he ordered National Security agents to spy on the telephone calls and read the private emails of law-abiding Americans without getting a search warrant or ever even trying to prove that the Americans spied against were even suspected of a crime. For all we know, Bush and his goons were spying on you.

Until a short time ago, Russ Feingold stood alone in his effort to censure Bush. All the other Democrats in the Senate were too afraid to stand with him.

Yesterday, however, senators Tom Harkin and Barbara Boxer finally found their backbones and decided to join Russ Feingold in co-sponsoring the resolution to censure Bush. Good for them.

Republican senator Lincoln Chafee has also indicated that he is considering co-sponsoring the resolution. That would be a dramatic blow to the effort to dismiss the censure resolution.

Now, comes your part. No matter where you live, you have at least one senator who has not yet co-sponsored the resolution to censure Bush. Find your senator’s telephone number and make a telephone call, telling your senator that you expect him or her to co-sponsor the censure resolution – and that you won’t give your senator a vote unless you see that cosponsorship soon.

Impeach Bush Blogosphere News

The Democrats in the Senate are cowering in fear but we out in the great American grassroots are unfaltering in our determination to bring George W. Bush to justice. Censure, imprison, or impeach Bush – it’s all just a different flavor of the same ice cream. The key is that we cannot allow President Bush to declare himself to be above the law. For the sake of our democracy, Bush has to pay the consequences for his crimes.

Here is a review of what other blogs have written about the effort to impeach Bush within the last 24 hours:

  • Senate candidate Carl Sheeler reminds us that democracy is not a spectator sport and writes of his pro-impeachment campaign: “I put my professional career and large family on hold because I asked a basic question. “What would one life be worth if it was saved by my acts of conviction and measured defiance?” So the house is mortgaged and I put up my “Be Patriotic Impeach Bush” billboard.”
  • Citzens Against Lies suggests, “Let’s relieve Mr. Bush, “Destroyer Dick” Cheney, and his cronies of the burdensome obligations of governance. Let’s impeach Bush’s lying, incompetent, disinterested, thieving ass, imprison those Republicans who have already been caught with their hands in our pockets, and vote the rest of them out of office in November.”
  • The Generic Heretic sneaks in an economic argument against war before advocating impeachment: “Had Congress been required to raise taxes to go to Iraq, it’s more than likely that it never would have happened. People would have been a bit more critical of the “Iraq is an imminent threat to America’s safety” claims if they came with a $1,000 tax increase. Take back the House and impeach Bush!”
  • Etc. Etc. provides a quick and lazy link to four reasons to impeach Bush. A bit more effort, please?
  • Journey Home argues that whether or not to impeach should not be the debate. Rather the debate should be between censure and impeachment.
  • The author of Slice O’ Life writes about shouting “Impeach Bush!” at a Morrissey concert. Who knew Morrissey had that kind of power?
  • Cup of Joe Powell reports on a candidate for Tennessee’s first congressional district who is promoting not only impeachment for George W. Bush, but prosecution on treason charges for the rest of the Bush cabinet.
  • The Morst Blog supports Russ Feingold’s move to censure Bush, saying, “With the move for censure, Russ Feingold again shows more courage than the rest of the Dems combined.” I’m with you on that one, Morst.

Senate Democrats Run Scared From a Little Bush

Filed under: Congress and Impeachment,General Articles — warden @ 2:21 pm

What the hell is wrong with the Democrats in the United States Senate?

Russ Feingold did the right thing this week, offering a strong resolution to censure George W. Bush for breaking the law, violating his oath of office, and undermining the Constitution of the United States of America.

George W. Bush has declared himself above the law, and the American people have reacted by rejecting the Bush agenda. Close to 70 percent of Americans now say that they oppose what George W. Bush is doing to America.

But did the Democrats in the Senate stand with the American people? Did the Democrats in the Senate stand for the rule of law?

    No.

This week, the Democrats ran scared. The Democrats are afraid of George W. Bush.

So, even though the American people are practically begging the Democrats to stop George W. Bush, the Democrats have surrendered to Bush. The Democrats have sided with George W. Bush against the American people.

Shame on Harry Reid. Shame on Hillary Clinton. Shame on Barack Obama. Shame on Joe Biden. Shame on John Kerry.

Shame on all the Democrats in the Senate who are too damned afraid and too worried about their political careers to defend American democracy and do the right thing.

These Democrats do not deserve our support. They are the lowest of the low. They use the terrible crimes of George W. Bush to get re-elected, but then, when we voters put these Democrats back in office, they do nothing to hold Bush accountable to the law. Instead, they help the Republicans protect Bush from accountability to the American people.

    Shame. Shame. SHAME!

    Iraqi Government Linked With Massacres

Filed under: General Articles,War Crimes — warden @ 10:24 am

Yesterday, Norm wrote about the alarming number of people killed over the weekend in Iraq – 87 dead bodies found. He rightly asked what plan George W. Bush has to stop the violence.

Of course, Bush doesn’t have a plan. Neither do American generals. American generals have actually gone on the record over the last week as saying that when civil war breaks out, the Iraqis will just have to take care of it themselves – even though the civil war that is starting now has been triggered by the American invasion, occupation, and control over the formation of the new Iraqi government.

George W. Bush is directly responsible for the emerging civil war in Iraq, but the Bush Administration says America won’t do anything about it. This comes at the very same time that Bush is saying that American soldiers need to keep fighting in Iraq in order to keep Iraq from falling into chaos… the exact kind of chaos that Iraq is falling into with American soldiers already there.

This isn’t just the lack of a plan. It’s complete nonsense. It’s fighting for the sake of fighting, war for the sake of war.

What Norm didn’t mention yesterday is that the Iraqi government now admits that it is operating Shiite death squads as part of the violence. Knight-Ridder newspapers wrote this week: “Senior Iraqi officials Sunday confirmed for the first time that death squads composed of government employees had operated illegally from inside two government ministries.”

This Iraqi government that is sending death squads out into Iraqi neighborhoods is the government that George W. Bush claims is the salvation of Iraq. Bush says that American soldiers have to keep being killed in order to protect that government.

It tears me up to see that Bush’s new puppet government in Iraq has been caught doing the same kind of crimes for which Saddam is now standing trial. How much longer must we wait before we put George W. Bush on trial?

Civil War in Iraq. And Bush’s Plan Is…

Filed under: General Articles — Norm @ 6:54 pm

Today, 87 bodies turned up in Baghdad. Their hands were bound together, and they had been shot execution-style. Twenty nine were in a mass grave, fifteen more in a van. They were murdered in what the mainstream press is finally acknowledging to be a growing civil war in Iraq. The ethnic cleansing and mass graves are starting to look more and more like the former Yugoslavia of the 90′s. (Source: AP, 3/14/06)

How close are the Iraqi security forces (you know, the ones that are supposedly ready to replace U.S. troops within a few months) to being able to keep control without the help of U.S. troops? Apparently, they can’t keep control even WITH the help of U.S. troops.

So what is Bush’s plan? Good question!

Russ Feingold Advocates Censure for Bush

Senator Russ Feingold announced yesterday that he intends to introduce a resolution to the floor of the United States Senate that would censure George W. Bush for spying on Americans without the legally required safeguards that prevent the use of such spying as a tool of political intimidation and punishment.

First of all, thanks are due to Senator Feingold, who has been stronger than any other member of the Senate in standing up to George W. Bush and defending our liberty. While other Democratic Senators, like Hillary Clinton, are willing to look the other way whil President Bush breaks the law, Senator Feingold is actually trying to do something to stop Bush.

The question we must ask, however, is whether censuring Bush is strong enough. Shouldn’t we impeach a President when high crimes are committed. Would it be wiser to prosecute Bush after he leaves office? Or, is it good enough just to investigate Bush and write a report? Give your answer in our latest Imprison Bush poll – is censuring enough?

    Our 200th Imprison Bush Article

Filed under: General Articles — warden @ 8:52 am

As of earlier this morning, Imprison Bush has surpassed the 200 article mark. Since January 2005, we have been writing about the growing movement to impeach George W. Bush. At times, it’s seemed that impeachment was an unattainable goal. Other times, it seemed that impeachment could not be avoided. Presently, we’re seeing that it’s the Democratic leadership in Congress, as much as the Republicans, who are standing in the way of impeachment. Through it all, we won’t quit until George W. Bush is out of the White House – if it takes another 200 articles, or another 2,000.

    Thanks for sticking with us.
