Tuesday Impeach Bush Roundup

Here’s a summary of the most recent articles sweeping through the blogosphere that advocate the impeachment of President George W. Bush:

  • Have Coffee, Will Write is reporting on a memo related to the port handover hub-bub, and has written so much on the Impeach Bush movement that it’s been necessary to create a unique category dedicated just to impeachment over there.
  • Over at Left of Center, B. Shilliday comments on Bush’s new low, low 34 percent approval rating, and suggests that an honorable person in Bush’s position would have resigned by now.
  • Several blogs, including a lynx with flies in his eyes, Bush Out – By Gandhi, and Sister Shaman, have written about the Harper’s Magazine editorial calling for the impeachment of George W. Bush – and none of them bothered to ask what took Lewis Lapham so long to conclude the obvious.
  • Static Brain shows a Lego version of Cheney’s hunting accident, and then provides a link to the Impeach Bush Coalition, of which this blog is a member.
  • The Impeach Bush Coalition endorses Rhode Island Democrat Carl Sheeler for Senate. Sheeler, as I mentioned yesterday, has gone out and bought a big billboard reading “Impeach Bush”.
  • Electric Lime calls for the impeachment of Bush, and then immediately afterwards announces support for Hillary Clinton in 2008. Senator Clinton hasn’t done a thing to work for the impeachment of Bush. Hm…
  • The Green Party Blog reports that several municipalities in California are considering resolutions endorsing the impeachment of George W. Bush.
  • Hawkfist mentions a book by the Center for Constitutional Rights creatively entitled, “Articles of Impeachment Against George W. Bush”
  • Another Live Journal blog entitled Enjoy Being posts links to t-shirts reading “Be Patriotic – Impeach Bush.” Ha, ha, funny. But those shirts are made in outsourced factories that use sweatshop labor to sell cheap. How about Be Patriotic – Buy American? Sorry, no link for you.
  • Free Range Human reports on a pro-impeachment letter to the editor in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, and then talks about a guy who got hit by two trains. Things are getting gory all over.
  • And finally, Stray Cat says impeach Bush with three exclamation points. Stray Cat, how do you really feel?

    A Pro-Impeachment Candidate for Senate

The ground has now been broken. America has a Democratic candidiate for U.S. Senate running on a pro-impeachment platform. Carl Sheeler is a former Marine, and he’s pissed. That might be a dangerous combination of factors ordinarily, but Sheeler has found a positive way to channel his energies. He’s gunning for President Bush, in a strictly, legal, electoral sense.

Sheeler has promised that, if he is elected to the United State Senate, he will work to ensure that George W. Bush is impeached. He’s even put up a billboard that reads: “Be Patriotic. Impeach Bush”

    Sheeler explains on his blog:

“I was asked by an East Providence firefighter on his way down to Katrina what I would do differently than all the other Democrats he had come to despise among the Republicans. It didn’t take a split second to respond. I’m now a 70′s Democrat and for starters I’d join the hundred plus members of our Congress and move to impeach Bush. He offered me his vote!”

    Arizona Lady Godiva: Impeach Bush

Hey, guys, want to hear a great story about a naked woman? Warning, it’s got some politics in it too.

A woman was spotted riding a bicycle around the Arizona State University on Thursday wearing nothing but a Sun Devils baseball cap and a pair of sneakers. On one of her legs was written the phrase “Impeach Bush”.

Police officers were called to carry her away, but before the cops could arrive, she skedaddled. No one who saw her was willing or able to identify her.

Think of this woman as a modern day Lady Godiva. Right on! If anyone knows who this Impeach Bush activist is, we’d love to talk to her.

26 Members of Congress for Impeachment Investigation

An update on the movement to hold George W. Bush accountable to the law:

It looks like most Democrats in Congress are still afraid of President Bush. Only 26 members of the House of Representatives have endorsed h. res. 635, a resolution that would establish a commission to investigate the crimes of George W. Bush related to the Iraq War and abuse and torture of prisoners around the world. The committee would have the authority to make a recommendation regarding impeachment.

So, why are most Democrats in Congress avoiding the issue?

The Progressive Democrats of America sent out a message this week announcing that they will be holding a special conference call tonight, at 9:00 PM Eastern Time, to discuss efforts to build toward the impeachment of George W. Bush.

    Here’s their message:

“Please join us as we begin to put our “Impeach Bush & Cheney” effort into action! This could be a large call, so please come on and immediately press “6″ to mute your phone. Because of the potentially large size of this call, we won’t be able to have introductions and discussion. This will be an informational update only with no give-and-take by participants. If you would like to submit questions during the call, email them to Sherry@pdamerica.org. We’ll do our best to answer all questions that come in. For our next call, we will divide regionally to allow for more discussion and group involvement. Please join us and get involved! We’ll also be sharing updates on the Appropriations Bill!”

President Bush Still Refusing Congressional Oversight

Filed under: Domestic Crimes,General Articles — warden @ 8:57 am

It seems that George W. Bush is unrepentant about his violation of the law through the program of spying against Americans conducted by the National Security Agency. Democratic Representative Jane Harman has indicated that, even after the existence of an NSA program to listen to Americans’ phone conversations and read their emails was revealed, the Bush White House refused an effort to obtain a briefing for the House Intelligence Committee about the program.

The intelligence community saw no problem with the briefing, and was ready to go ahead. However, White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card stepped in and stopped the briefing, which is required by law, from taking place.

I’m starting to feel like a canary whistling in the middle of a herd of stampeding elephants. Hello! The President broke the law! Can anyone hear me? The President broke the law!

Shrine Destruction Shows Why War is a High Crime

Filed under: General Articles,War Crimes — warden @ 7:22 am

The golden dome of the Shiite Samarra shrine will surely become a symbol for what has become of Iraq, and what has become of America’s once shining reputation.

Today, the shrine’s golden dome was blown up, and people inside the shrine were killed. The American army and its Iraqi helpers has surrounded the shrine. What happens next? No one knows, but everyone knows it won’t be good.

It’s not clear who’s to blame for the destruction of the Samarra shrine, but there will be suspects: Iraq’s Sunnis, and the Americans.

If the Americans are blamed, whether they’re truly responsible or not, the Iraq War will burst out of control.

If the Sunnis are blamed, the Iraq War will burst out of control.

Civil war in Iraq now seems more likely than ever, and American soldiers are going to be caught in the middle of it. All those plans for troop withdrawals have probably been destroyed along with the golden dome.

Will Colin Powell now send a new letter to the Bush White House, saying “You broke it. You fix it.”?

The destruction of the Samarra shrine, and the aftermath that is surely to come, shows why it was an impeachable high crime for George W. Bush to lie to the American people in order to start the Iraq War. Putting young Americans in the middle of the powderkeg of the Middle East, with guns blazing, is not just negligence. It was a purposeful endangerment of American lives. Bush knew Americans would die in this war. Bush also knew that if the American people were told the truth about Iraq, there would be no war. So, Bush lied in order to create an unnecessary crisis that would kill Americans.

Bush needs to be impeached. Let me say that again – Impeach Bush, and that terrible Dick Cheney he brought into office with him. In the days to come, Americans will watch the price of Bush’s crimes get higher and higher, with bloody American bodies stacked up in a pile that will reach new gruesome proportions.

This is what happens when you start a war, Mr. Bush. War does not create security. War creates chaos. War makes us insecure. This war is one long crime, and it needs to stop now.

Paul Pillar Exposes Bush Lies on Iraq War

Filed under: General Articles — warden @ 7:25 am

Right wingers have come to hate the slogan Bush Lied, People Died. President Bush didn’t lie about Iraq, they say. According to them, Bush just screwed up. Really, that’s the best defense the right wingers have for Bush – that he’s a screwup and not a scoundrel.

Well, even that pathetic defense doesn’t hold, now that Paul Pillar, the chief intelligence expert on the Middle East for the Bush White House for five years, has gone public with the truth about how George W. Bush and his underlings purposefully distorted available intelligence in order to push the United States into an unnecessary war. For example, here’s what Pillar has to say about the Bush-Cheney claim for a link between Saddam Hussein and Al Quaeda:

“The main thing that happened there, particularly with reference to this issue of, was there a relationship between the Saddam regime and al-Qaida — was a selective use of bits and pieces of reporting to try to build the case that in this case there was some kind of alliance without really reflecting the analytic judgment of the intelligence community that there was not.”

Read that: The people in the Bush White House knew that there was no proof of a link between Al Quaeda and Saddam Hussein, but they were determined to present a false case that such a link existed, and they did so in order to push America into a war that did not need to be fought. They knew that the war was unnecessary to the security of the United States, yet forced America into war anyway.

George W. Bush screwed up all right, but it wasn’t even an honest screwup. Bush knew what he was doing was based on lies, and thousands of Americans have died as a result.
